Venmo Launches Major Redesign as PayPal Prepares Potential Spin-Off

Venmo is introducing its biggest redesign since 2021, with rollout beginning this week and additional features arriving over the coming months. The revamped feed will feature larger images, reactions, and quick action buttons like "Pay Again" and "Say Thanks," along with personalized cashback offers and product suggestions. New tabs for "Send" and "Money" will launch in the coming months, allowing users to access frequent contacts more easily, manage expenses, and access features like bill-splitting for up to 30 people and a new Rewards tab consolidating limited-time offers and the Stash cash-back program.

The redesign comes as PayPal, Venmo's parent company, restructures to spin off Venmo as a standalone business unit—a move seen as groundwork for a potential sale, with reports suggesting Stripe has expressed interest in acquiring PayPal. According to Alexis Sowa, Venmo's senior vice president and general manager, the redesign stems from a year of user research revealing that many users were unaware of existing features. The update reflects a broader industry trend toward making payment apps function as social platforms, with competitors like Verse and Daylight offering similar social spending features.
