A cookie is a small text file your browser stores when you visit a website. Polaris Global News uses a small number of first-party cookies — we never set third-party tracking cookies. This page explains exactly what we use, lets you change your preference, and links back to our full Privacy Policy.

What each cookie does
Essential (always on)
These are required for the Site to function. They cannot be disabled.
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
| authjs.session-token | Keeps you signed in across page loads. | 30 days |
| authjs.csrf-token | Protects sign-in forms from cross-site request forgery. | Session |
| authjs.callback-url | Tracks where to send you back after sign-in. | Session |
| theme | Remembers your light/dark mode preference. | 1 year |
Analytics + personalization (opt-in)
These are off until you click Accept on the banner or in the controls above. They power the “Recommended for you” feed and let us measure aggregate engagement.
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
| pgnews_consent | Records your “Accept / Decline” choice. Always set so we can respect it. | 1 year |
| pgnews_screen | Sends your screen size to the server once so we can build an anonymized device fingerprint for de-duplication. Only set after consent. | 1 year |
Third-party cookies
We do not set third-party tracking cookies (no Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel, no advertising networks). When you watch an embedded YouTube video, YouTube may set its own cookies; you can control these in your YouTube account settings or block them in your browser. The same applies if you choose to sign in with Google — Google’s own cookies and privacy policy apply to that flow.
Browser-level controls
You can also manage cookies in your browser’s settings:
We also honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal — if your browser sends it, we treat it as a decline for analytics cookies, even if you haven’t interacted with our banner.
Changes to this page
We update this list when our cookie use changes. Material changes are reflected in the “Last updated” date above and, if they expand what we collect, will trigger the consent banner to re-appear so you can make a fresh choice.
