Meta is working on an AI-powered pendant that the company plans to test within the next year, according to a memo obtained by The Information. The pendant would let users record and store conversations on a wearable device they can attach to clothing or wear as a necklace.
The project builds on Meta's acquisition of Limitless, an AI device startup, completed at the end of 2025. At the time, Meta said the deal would help it "accelerate our work to build AI-enabled wearables." Limitless had already developed a pendant product that users could wear to record audio.
Past AI wearables have struggled to attract buyers. Privacy worries and poor marketing may have played a role. Some devices simply failed to offer features people found useful. But technology companies like OpenAI continue to pursue the market.
The memo also reveals Meta's broader hardware ambitions. The company plans to expand its line of AI glasses and introduce a subscription service called Wearables for Work aimed at business customers. These efforts are part of a larger push to turn around Meta's Reality Labs division, which lost $4 billion in the first quarter of this year.
Meta has not yet publicly confirmed the plans. TechCrunch reached out to the company for comment.
