Ukraine reports ongoing combat despite ceasefire agreement

Ukraine's military reported continued Russian attacks on Sunday, including nearly 150 clashes along the front line and multiple drone strikes across different regions. This activity came during a three-day ceasefire that U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Friday, set to run from May 9 to May 11.

Russian strikes caused casualties in several parts of Ukraine. One person died and three were wounded in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, regional governor Ivan Fedorov said. In the northeastern Kharkiv region, eight people including two children were injured in drone attacks on the regional capital and nearby towns, according to Gov. Oleh Syniehubov.

The southern Kherson region saw seven people wounded, including a child, from Russian drone and artillery strikes since early Saturday, regional Gov. Oleksandr Prokudin reported. In the southeastern Dnipropetrovsk region, a child was wounded and infrastructure was damaged in Russian attacks, said regional head Oleksandr Hanzha.

Kyiv's air force said Russia launched 27 long-range drones at Ukraine overnight—fewer than typical—and that air defenses destroyed all of them. Ukraine's General Staff reported 147 clashes had occurred along the front line, according to its morning report.

The ceasefire was also supposed to include a prisoner exchange of 1,000 soldiers from each side. Ukrainian officials have not publicly stated whether they view the reported attacks as ceasefire violations. Earlier in the week, Russia and Ukraine each announced separate ceasefires but quickly blamed one another of breaking them.
