Ukraine reports casualties as Russia-backed truce breaks down

At least nine people were wounded in eastern Ukraine on Sunday when Russian forces attacked, Ukrainian officials reported. The incidents occurred on the second day of a three-day truce that US President Donald Trump announced on Friday.

Trump said both sides had agreed to stop all "kinetic" warfare for three days starting Saturday. The deal also included a mutual exchange of 1,000 prisoners each. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his evening address that "on the front line, the Russian army is not complying with the ceasefire and is not even really trying."

Russian forces conducted assault operations along the front line but did not carry out any "large-scale" air raids during the day, according to Zelensky. Ukrainian air force data showed a decrease in long-range Russian drone strikes compared to before the truce began.

In the eastern Dnipropetrovsk region, Russian drone strikes injured a three-year-old girl and a 23-year-old rescuer, regional governor Oleksandr Ganzha said. These casualties represent some of the wounded reported by officials on Sunday.

The reported violations mark the second consecutive day of fighting during what was intended to be a period of no combat operations. Ukrainian officials have documented ongoing military activity despite the announced truce terms.
