Tanveer Singh, 32, received a 29-year prison sentence on Wednesday at Wolverhampton Crown Court for the murder of 41-year-old Shara Millar. Her body was discovered in Smethwick, West Midlands, in August 2025. Judge Michael Chambers called Singh a "manipulative and cynical" man who showed no remorse, according to PTI.
Singh met Millar after drinking at a pub and then drove to Soho Road to look for sex workers, prosecutors told the court. He picked her up in his van, attacked her, and strangled her to death. After the killing, he poured liquid over her body to destroy evidence before leaving her on a pavement, where a member of the public found her.
Detective Inspector Joe Davenport from West Midlands Police described Millar as "brutally killed by a dangerous predator." He said Singh had visited Soho Road specifically to target sex workers. CCTV footage showed a white van arriving at the scene before Millar's body was abandoned. Police traced the rental van to Singh's delivery work and arrested him at his home in West Bromwich.
A forensic post-mortem examination showed Millar had suffered head injuries and died from strangulation. The court heard Millar had been living with drug addiction and was involved in sex work at the time of her death.
West Midlands Police said it remains committed to supporting vulnerable women involved in sex work. "No woman deserves to feel unsafe, and we are committed to providing safe spaces to report and access support," the force stated.
